Black Sparrowhawk admitted with a smashed/rotated left wing.
Rescuer and location: This bird was picked up by Marcus Burnett in Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg.
The story: The bird was found, unable to fly. It had very obvious damage to the left wing, which was badly broken and rotated. The break was also a few days old since maggots had already infested the wound.
Treatment: The bird’s wing was strapped and it was given fluids, Meloxicam painkiller and and Baytril anti-biotics.
Prognosis/outcomes: Unfortunately the bird was too far gone and died during the night.
