The African Bird of Prey Sanctuary receives a funding grant from
the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF)
After four years of deliberation all at the Sanctuary were ecstatically surprised to hear that the NLDTF had awarded us a substantial funding grant. The bulk of the monies are to convert the existing shed into an environmental education centre for both children and adults.
The NLDTF relies on funds from the proceeds of the National Lottery. The Lotteries Act and regulations guide the way in which the NLDTF funding may be allocated. The NLDTF wants the grants to make a difference to the lives of all South Africans, especially those more vulnerable and to improve the sustainability of the beneficiary organizations. Available funds are distributed to registered and qualifying non-profit organizations in the fields of charities; arts, culture and national heritage; and sport and recreation. By placing its emphasis on areas of greatest need and potential, the NLDTF contributes to South Africa’s development.
Staff gathered in the empty building shell that will be converted into an indoor flying area and function hall for this photo. A second-story mezzanine education room will be constructed above the expanded eating area and staff and store rooms added behind the scenes. An elevated viewing deck will also link the building to the amazing setting in which the Sanctuary is located. The completed structure will take our ‘outdoor-classroom’ and allow us to offer an all weather facility.
So watch this space and by the end of 2014 we will have a lovely new venue to share with you all.
